Tariffs on Solar PV Imports is Reality

Today, many news sources are reporting that Tariffs on Solar PV Imports is Reality.

This has been speculated for several months now.  Several large  solar panel suppliers have hoarded panels…waiting to make a bundle on them as prices are sure to increase. At Portable Solar, we are keeping the prices steady until we run out of current supply.

Renewable Energy World reports the details of the 201 Trade case that has been on going. Two major solar companies brought a suit to the International Trade Commission last year. Now Tariffs on Solar PV Imports is Reality!

“President Donald Trump has agreed to a recommendation by the International Trade Commission (ITC) to grant U.S. solar manufacturers relief from unfair trade practices in the form of tariffs on solar cells and modules imported to the U.S.

That relief includes tariffs of:

  • 30 percent in the first year,
  • 25 percent in the second year,
  • 20 percent in the third year,
  • 15 percent in the fourth year.

The first 2.5 GW of imported cells are excluded from the additional tariff.

What do you think? Were there unfair trade practices that hurt the two US Solar companies? No matter what you or I think about the fairness of this act, it’s here for at least 4 years. If you are looking to get Solar, you may want to either plan to get it in a few years or get on board right now. With electricity prices increasing every year, many of us are using solar to soften the blow.  I know several friends who are getting off the Grid all together. More on that later. This is all I have for now. Hope it was short and informative. I’ll give an update if anything else changes. Stay tuned to our Facebook Page as well.
